Dry Cleaning
(Fashion Cleaning) (top)
Margaret’s
Cleaners is known, first and foremost, for what the consumer calls
our “dry cleaning” services. We regard this as our Fashion
Cleaning Service since it often involves both dry and wet cleaning
processes. Wet cleaning is not the same as home washing. Wet cleaning
is more labor-intensive than dry cleaning, but also more effective
than normal dry cleaning for the removal of water-based stains,
such as perspiration and grass stains. Dry cleaning is more effective
for the removal of oil-based stains, such as grease and salad oil.
In order to perform our wet cleaning service,
each item is measured for size and shape, either hand cleaned or
wet cleaned in a state-of-the-art computer-controlled wet cleaning
machine and either line dried or dried in a computer controlled
sensing dryer. It is not necessary for the customer to decide between
the dry or wet cleaning process. Each garment is individually evaluated
for both compatibility of the service and the stain removal requirements
before processing.
Margaret’s owns the exclusive license in
San Diego County for the soaps and detergents used in both our
dry cleaning and wet cleaning processes. They are far superior
and more costly than those typically used, but following cleaning,
the “hand” (or feel) of the garments are noticeably
better than when cleaned with standard detergents. We are a multi-solvent
plant in that two different dry cleaning solvents (perchlorethalyne and hydrocarbon) may be used during
the dry cleaning process. Each has its own strengths and they are
applied accordingly.
Our Fashion Cleaning Service includes:
- Detailing — includes preparing the garments for
cleaning by measuring for blocking when required, button or ornament
protection or removal, evaluating for serviceability, identifying stains for treating, inspecting for damage and loose seams, and more.
- Stain removal — is performed by experienced professionals
using both soaking and individual stain removal techniques, many of which are proprietary.
- Cleaning — procedures include dry cleaning, wet cleaning,
and hand cleaning, and utilize extensive classification, customized programs,
and only the purest of solvents.
- Hand finishing — by each of our 12 finishing professionals is a highly specialized skill. Our pants pressor is not expected to be a knit blocker and vice-versa. Our 12 finishing stations are configured to achieve the best work possible. For example, our soft wool press is softly padded to prevent shine, whereas cotton and linen require a firmer pad.
- Minor repair — of loose hems,
open seams, loose bottons, and replacment of missing buttons is done whenever needed.
- Inspection — of each garment is formally
performed at the individual item level and again at order completion
to assure that we have provided the finest in craftsmanship and
attended to your preferences. Intermediate inspections occur throughout the production process to assure, for instance, that stains have been removed and will not be set with the heat of finishing.
- Packaging — of most garments is performed by individually
protecting with a poly bag. We make extensive use of tissue, custom
hangers and specially designed breathable garment bags and boxes to protect garments
during storage.
Each function described above requires a great amount of experience
and detailed craftsmanship.

Shirt Laundry (top)
We
offer three ways to finish dress shirts and blouses beginning with
our Traditional Shirt Laundry, stepping up to our Del
Mar Shirt LaundryTM service
(visit our Specialty
Services section) and the ultimate is through our Dry Cleaning
(Fashion Cleaning) Service.
The basic cleaning process is the same for the
Traditional Shirt Laundry and Del Mar Shirt Laundry™ services:
- Each shirt is pretreated for soil or stains as needed, with particular attention to collar soil.
- Not more than 15 shirts are cleaned at a time, and
- Shirts are categorized for temperature and starch.
Finishing is the primary difference between our first two service levels (Traditional and Del Mar). The
Traditional Shirt Laundry Service completes the shirt by hand pressing
with a shirt laundry press. The Del
Mar Shirt Laundry™ Service pre-finishes the shirt on
the shirt laundry press then completes the shirt finishing entirely by hand
with an iron. Placket and seam finishing is superior with the Del
Mar Shirt LaundryTM Service.
For the finest shirt service, consider
our Fashion Cleaning Service. We utilize all the experience
and facilities of our Fashion Cleaning Department, including:
- Unsurpassed stain removal
- Detailed cleaning, which includes individual soaking when required
- Complete hand finishing with low temperature dry cleaning presses
and irons
- Highly recommended for dark colored, high end or couture shirts.
Our Fashion Cleaning Service
is truly the finest shirt processing available.
Margaret’s owns the exclusive license in
San Diego County for the soaps and detergents we use in our shirt
laundry processes. Their ability to clean difficult collars and
cuffs, as well as brightness retention, is noticeably better than
standard soaps and detergents. In addition, only soft water is
used throughout our laundry services.

Bed
Linen Service (top)
Margaret’s
services all our bed linens in-house. We have two classifications
of service: (1) Traditional Linen Service and (2) French
Hand Laundry™ Service. Our French Hand Laundry™ Service
is described in the Specialty Services section of this website.
The Traditional Bed Linen Service includes stain
removal, cleaning, hand pressing, minor mending, inspection and
packaging. Bed linens are bundled in sets to make changing beds
as easy as possible. Packaging on hangers is optional for an additional
fee.
Silk and linen sheets must be processed by our
French Hand Laundry™ Service, as they require extensive hand
finishing. Only cotton and cotton/poly blend linens will be processed
by our Traditional Bed Linen Service. We also require that high
thread count linens (600+) and highly detailed linens be processed
by our French Hand Laundry™ Service, as these sheets also
require extensive hand care.

be processed by our French Hand Laundry™ Service.
Packaging Options:
- The Traditional Table Linen Service delivers your clean tablecloth
on a hanger.
- French Hand Laundry™ Service will deliver your table
cloth on a wide hanger layered with white Kraft paper for a minimum
amount of creasing or on a roller for a creaseless finish.
